What You'll Do
We are looking for a UI Artist to join our Fortnite Multiproduct / Ecosystem team. In this job, you will bring ideas to life by creating high-fidelity mockups and prototypes. You will be responsible for implementation within the Unreal Editor using UMG, animations, material effects, etc. You will then work with game designers, product managers, UX designers, tech UI designers, and programmers to ship these features to millions of users.
In this role, you will
• Work collaboratively with UX Design, Tech UI Design, Art Direction, and Programming to create high-quality, visually striking UI that matches Fortnite's unique style and brand, and iterate on UI designs based on feedback from art directors, product UX teams, and user testing
• Actively participate in the creation and implementation of design systems, game menus, HUD elements, iconography, materials/shaders, UI animations, and motion design
• Design and implement medium-to-complex flows, screens, and components at a high craft bar with minimal oversight
• Bring UI concepts to life in-engine, ensuring visual polish, responsiveness, and clarity in a fast-paced, live game environment, and ensure UI assets are designed and optimised across PC, console, and mobile without compromising quality
• Apply accessibility best practices to improve usability and legibility for all players, and collaborate with localization teams to ensure UI works across multiple languages and regions
• Work in Figma, and/or Photoshop, Illustrator to create concepts, then implement in Unreal using UMG/Materials
• Create new material effects, basic blueprint logic, and 2D/animated effects to enhance interactivity and player feedback, and maintain and contribute to UI asset libraries and style guides, ensuring consistency across Fortnite's evolving experiences
What we're looking for
• You have 3-5 years of experience working collaboratively to see complex UI features through to completion across multiple platforms (mobile, PC, consoles)
• You have 3-5 years of experience working in Agile environments and on multi-disciplinary teams
• Excellent visual design skills
• You are skilled with Figma, Adobe Suite, or other comparable software
• A strong portfolio of work showcasing your skills and your process
• Experience with UI Art implementation, in Unreal Engine (UMG) or equivalent game engine
• Experience with building UI materials & shaders for game engines, or equivalent 3d packages and FX tools; motion design & UI animation, preferably for games or interaction design
• You have the ability to see features through to completion and rapidly modify work as information changes
• You have a passion for making and playing games, and have a strong sense of player empathy
• You are a proactive individual who naturally leans into owning outcomes and is able to deal with ambiguity well and adapt to changes of plan quickly
• Bonus points
• You have worked on or shipped a AAA game title
• Experience working with design systems
